Old 97s Most Messed Up Released Today

finally, the day i've been waiting for since hearing that the old 97s were putting out a new album - release day! i am even wearing my too far to care anniversary t-shirt today like the giant nerd i am. appropriate then that they'll be gracing atlanta in exactly one month from today (that's may 29th for those of you who don't know what day it is) at terminal west.

anyway, i got a good taste of this album from lead singer rhett miller's solo performance earlier this month, so i've literally been chomping at the bit to have access to the whole thing. have mercy, the guys are back in a big eff bomb droppin' way. in pure vintage old 97s form, most messed up speaks of lovin' and leavin' and drinkin' and sinnin'. all of my favorite things wrapped up into 39 minutes of guitar-twanging bliss. old fans will appreciate the signature riffs and gritty story-telling of "nashville," while those who haven't had the experience will find themselves repeating the tongue-in-cheek air of the title track, "most messed up."

personally, this album is not leaving my cd player for the next 3 to 6 months, and if you want to see a spectacle, you can find me in the front row singing along with a beer in hand, at terminal west next month.

listen to the first single "longer than you've been alive" - a tip of the hat to the years this band has been doing their thing.
